Wilderness Tracks

$20.00

A Chinese original translated into English.

Wilderness Tracks is peopled by characters who are part of nature rather than the owners of it. From 1976 to 1989, the author, Hai Fan, was in the guerilla forces of the Malayan Communist Party. Due to military cordon and other restrictions, he and his comrades adopted indigenous lifeways to survive.

That experience opened the door to the questions examined in the stories collected here: What kind of love does it take to overcome intra- and inter-species prejudices? Can animals feel pain, fear, and joy? In the face of ecocidal climate change, what do indigenous people mean when they say that “our past is your future”?
